Russia inbound tourism growth from January – March 2007
In the first quarter of this year, 4,676,087 foreigners travelled to Russia, which is 8% more than in the same period last year; this figure exceeds the growth rate experienced from 2005- 2006 (1.3%).
The following countries experienced a particularly high growth rate in the number of tourists visiting Russia: Norway – 128%, USA – 112%, Canada – 109%, Japan – 107%, Switzerland – 106%, Austria - 153%, Belgium – 135%, France and Spain – both 127%, Germany – 126%, Sweden – 123%, Israel – 116%, Italy – 115%, Korea – 107%, bearing in mind that these countries didn’t show any real interest in Russia as a holiday destination in 2006. These figures highlight the growing interest in Russia as a major cultural tourism destination.
