Oman opens a tourism representative office in Moscow

An office promoting tourism in Oman is soon to be opened within the Oman embassy in Moscow. This decision was made by the new Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Tourism, Ms. Radzhiha Vint Abdel Amir, who was appointed to the post last year. Prior to this appointment, the Ministry of Tourism did not exist at all. Promotion of tourism fell within the remit of the Ministry of Economy, and its activities were limited to the production of guides for Oman and the admission of Russian television survey groups into the country.

According to the experts, the new minister has already made plans to highlight the potential of tourism in Oman to the Russian market. The Sultanate will rely on financial support from the government to promote the country through advertisements, a new informative website about Oman, and a range of seminars held in conjunction with tour operators and agents.

According to tour operators working with this destination, Oman is underestimated in the Russian tourism market. The potential tourism opportunities in the country are 50-70% higher than current demand. Aware of the lack of hotel rooms in the country, the Omani government is actively promoting the construction of new hotels. At the moment there are only 7 classic beach hotels in operation across the country. Plans have been formulated to open seven new hotels in the near future, meaning that the number of available hotel rooms will at least double, and, in the next five years, triple.

The latest development is the opening of the new elite 6 star hotel ‘Evason Hideaway & Spa at Zighy Bay’ on the Mussandam peninsula, which only includes villas. It is set to open in October and is already featuring in the proposals of many tour operators.
