Domodedovo airport gives its tourism predictions for the next 8 years
According to Domodedovo – the largest Russian airport – Moscow’s air traffic from 2001 up to 2007 showed annual 25% growth: increasing from 2.8 million tourists to 8.7 million. And, according to airport analysts, this tendency is here to stay until 2015, perhaps with a slightly slower growth. According to these figures, over the next eight years air traffic will increase by 10% annually: from 8.7 million tourists to 18.2 million by 2015. It is interesting to note that for a number of years the country’s air market has grown through tourism: in the last six years the number of passengers travelling through Moscow doubled, however the number of tourists has tripled! As a result, the proportion of tourists amongst the total number of passengers in Moscow’s air traffic increased from 15% in 2005 to 22.5% this year. This tendency will remain for some time.
There were interesting statistics showing the growth or drop in the flow of tourists to different tourist destinations. Destinations with the smallest proportion of tourists amongst the total number of passengers showed the biggest increase. For example Podgorica (Bulgaria) lead with a 623% increase, whilst the biggest decrease was shown by Innsbruck (Austria) and Alicante (Spain).
