ITE's MITT and UITT continue to support the industry.

The Russian and Ukrainian outbound markets are still strong as their population continues to travel abroad regardless of the events of September 11th. As RATA (Russian Travel Agents Association) indicated recently, there has been no significant decline registered in Russia on trips taken abroad since September 12th and the number of charters and flights planned for this travel season is no lower than that of last year.

MITT2002 (Moscow International Travel & Tourism exhibition) is thus set for another successful edition with major international players such as Croatia, Egypt, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand increasing their participation alongside relative new comers to the market like Chile and China. Additionally, two sector-specific pavilions are being developed; the Adventure Activities pavilion and the Information Technology pavilion. These have both grown in popularity and have become established features of the exhibition.

MITT2002 will form part of a whole week of activities centred round the travel and tourism industry. Following the success of the WTO's Ecotourism seminar, sponsored by ITE Travel Exhibitions and held in Almaty, Kazakstan, the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation requested a similar seminar be held on Ecotourism 2 days prior to MITT2002 on the 25th and 26th March.

Other events to be held during MITT2002 include the ceremony for the 4th edition of the Russian Travel Awards. These awards are organised in conjunction with TTG Russia and every year they are developed to recognise new sectors of the industry and raise the profile of those adding most value to the travel market. The 2002 new categories include the Best Russian Outbound Tour Operator, the Best Russian Inbound Tour Operator, the Best Russian Domestic Tour Operator and the Best Russian Regional Hotel.

UITT2002 (Ukraine International Travel & Tourism exhibition) the satellite show of MITT, will take place from 3 -6 April in Kiev. This event has seen steady development over the years and 2002 will be no exception. Participating countries include Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Malta and Singapore, with increased representation from Cyprus, France, Thailand and Turkey.

The Russian, CIS, Central and Eastern European travel industries are still growing and ITE Travel Exhibitions will continue to support their development and promote their potential through their core shows in Russia, Czech Republic and Ukraine.
