IMITT2002 organisers and participants feel confident of a successful 9th edition.

MITT2002 (Moscow International Travel & Tourism exhibition), which takes place 27-30th March is set for another successful edition. The Russian outbound market is strong and major international players such as Croatia, Dubai, Egypt, France, Malaysia, Singapore and Switzerland are increasing their participation to capture this growing market. Companies from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, China, Ireland, Morocco, Oman, Peru, Serbia and South Africa, who are relatively new or totally new to the Russian market will also be participating at MITT2002. With the stabilisation of the Russian economy the international travel & tourism industry is realising the importance of the Russian outbound market and is ensuring their destination and product is showcased at this leading travel trade event for the region.

Participation on the local side of the exhibition is also very strong. Inbound figures have been on the increase over the past year and local exhibitors are looking forward to meeting new contacts and closing a record number of deals on site at MITT2002. This year the exhibition will cover over 29,000sqm gross and over 2,000 companies will be represented. Visitor figures are expected to reach 100,000 including trade visitors from the first 3 days and public from the final day.

MITT2002 will form part of a whole week of activities centred round the travel and tourism industry. Following the success of the WTO's Ecotourism seminar, sponsored by ITE Travel Exhibitions and held in Almaty, Kazakstan, the Tourism Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation requested a similar Ecotourism seminar be held 2 days prior to MITT2002 on the 25th and 26th March. This seminar will be the first in a complete programme of conferences, seminars and presentations, which have been scheduled for the exhibition.

Other events to be held during MITT2002 include the ceremony for the 4th edition of the Russian Travel Awards. These awards are organised in conjunction with TTG Russia and every year they are developed to recognise new sectors of the industry and raise the profile of those adding most value to the travel market. The 2002 new categories include the Best Russian Outbound Tour Operator, the Best Russian Inbound Tour Operator, the Best Russian Domestic Tour Operator and the Best Russian Regional Hotel.

"The MITT team is looking forward to a successful and productive exhibition," says Jay Martens, Event Manager for MITT. "Our exhibitors have a real enthusiasm for the Russian market and understand its great significance. They also acknowledge the important role MITT plays in bringing the decision makers of the industry face-to-face to do business. We will do our best to ensure a successful event for all involved.
