Introduction

Speaking at the TransRussia 2000 conference, Aleksandr Misharin, Deputy Minister of Railways, announced a large scale upgrading of the country's railway system. Specialists have developed 3 projects, each worth more than US$1 billion, which are currently underway.

Russia, with its 87,500 route kilometers of operational railway represents the largest national rail network in the world. With ongoing investment commitments such as the EBRD Second Russian Railways modernisation project, the potential business opportunities for international companies involved in the rail industry are phenomenal. RailTEK Russia 2001 offers you the ideal opportunity to meet the major investors and Ministry officials who are involved in shaping and specifying the future development of Russia's railways.

RailTEK Russia 2001 is supported by the Ministry of Railways of the Russian Federation. Key officials of the Ministry, as well as the 17 state-owned regional railways, will participate in the RailTEK Russia 2001 exhibition and associated seminars. Because of the international strategic importance of the Russian railways, delegations from Eastern Europe, the Baltic and CIS States, China, South Korea and Japan will also be invited to take part in RailTEK Russia 2001.

RailTEK Russia 2001 will be held concurrently with TransRussia 2001. Now in its 6thyear, TransRussia is the established international transportation and logistics exhibition. All of the major companies involved in national and international railfreight are regular exhibitors at this event, including Deutsche Bahn, Hungarian State Railways, Estonian Railways, Latvian Railways, VR Cargo and Trans Siberian Express Service. RailTEK Russia 2001 will build on this natural synergy to establish the first international forum to concentrate specifically on the investment and operational requirements of the Russian railways.
