GOVERNMENT OF ROMANIA
MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY AND RESOURCES
Bucharest 15 June, 2001
On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Resources of Romania, I am very pleased to welcome you to the first Romanian Oil & Gas and Energy International Conference - RIOGE 2001 organised in Bucharest under our auspices by ITE Group Plc.
Romania boasts of a centennial tradition in oil & gas exploration and energy production, being not only homeland of the first city in Europe to experience public electric lighting, but also a long-standing, competitive exporter of oil-based products and electricity. Our 20th century energy production and distribution infrastructures require timely rehabilitation and upgrading in order to cope successfully with the challenges of Romania's accession to NATO and to the EU while preserving the traditional competitive advantage of Romanian products.
According to the National Strategy for the Development of the Energy Sector defined by the Government of Romania, the Ministry of Industry and Resources is committed to the implementation of a series of projects that welcome the combined input of worldwide financial institutions, equipment manufacturers and service providers. The first edition of the upcoming RIOGE 2001 Conference will provide an excellent platform for the international business community to learn about these projects and identify new and exciting business opportunities.
The agenda of RIOGE 2001 is not limited to the current status and prospects of the energy industry in Romania, but also covers the very important chapters of project finance and risk protection, answering questions regarding the role played by Government, international organisations and private establishments.
I look forward to welcoming you in Bucharest at this very promising high-profile event, and trust that it will be a most rewarding and stimulating occasion.
With Best Wishes,
Iulian IANCU
Secretary of State

On behalf of the Industry and Services Committee of the Romanian Parliament, I would like to invite the presence of international delegates and supporters to the first Romanian Oil & Gas and Energy International Conference - RIOGE 2001.

To all Central and Eastern European Countries undergoing transition to a free-market economy, the status of legislation governing the energy sector has been a crucial factor in determining their readiness to join the European Union. Romania makes no exception, considering the importance of energy in its overall economy.

RIOGE 2001 is a most welcome opportunity to present our main legislative initiatives aimed at transforming the Romanian business environment by stimulating competition, eliminating trade barriers, and encouraging foreign investment.

I look forward to welcoming you at the Conference.
