THE AUTOMOTIVE MARKET IN RUSSIA TODAY The feedback that we have received from our exhibitors is evidence that after the financial crisis of 1998, the Russian automotive market is finally making its comeback. Foreign car manufacturers are witnessing a staggering growth in sales, increasing from 60% to more than 300% within the first half of this year. It is clear that growth in the automotive industry depends heavily upon economic conditions, and currently these conditions are looking positive. COMMENTS FROM EXHIBITORS "There has been an almost twofold increase in overall car imports" - Vladimir Salov, Brunswick UBS Warburg. "The total sales of all non-Russian cars will increase from 46,000 units last year to 80,000 units this year. This is a good increase" - Henik Nenzen, Ford Motor Co. "Our sales are up 400 percent. As of last month we have exceeded our sales for 2000" - Heidi McCormack, General Motors "Our production volumes in Russia are continuously growing. We started in 1999 with only two models, and now we're producing more than 11 different models, with different specifications." - Wolfgang Schlimmer, BMW Russland |
