Nigel J. Stapleton

ITE Group Plc
Nigel Stapleton joined the ITE Board in November 2000 as a Non-Executive Director. In January he was appointed CEO to share responsibility, along with Chairman, Lawrie Lewis of ITE Group Plc. Mr Stapleton is also Chairman of Veronis, Suhler International Limited, the European subsidiary of the New York-based Media Merchant Bank, Veronis, Suhler & Associates. This company manages a $1 billion private equity fund that has invested for a 17% stake in ITE Plc.
Mr Stapleton previously served as Co-Chief Executive of Reed Elsevier, Europe's largest publishing and information company, from August 1998 until September 1999. He was Co-Chairman of the company from July 1996 until August 1998, and its Chief Financial Officer from January 1993 until June 1996. Mr Stapleton also served as the Chairman of Reed International plc from April 1997 until April 1999, and as Finance Director from November 1986 until June 1996.
Prior, Mr Stapleton held planning, finance, and general management positions with Unilever plc, including Vice President/Finance of Unilever United Stated Inc., the holding company for Unilever's businesses in the U.S.
Mr Stapleton was Chairman of the 100 Group of U.K. Finance Directors from January 1994 to November 1995. He is also a Non-Executive Director of Marconi plc and The London Stock Exchange plc.
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Mr Stapleton also has a first class honors degree in Economics from Cambridge University. In late 1997, he was elected an Honorary Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. In June 1999, he was awarded the Freedom of the City of London as a member of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers. Most recently, he has become a Trustee of the Royal Opera House in London.
