ITE Group plc has agreed a programme of 9 exhibitions
in 2006 with the Xinjiang International Exhibition
Centre, starting with WestChinaBuild in June. The official
signing ceremony took place in Xinjiang’s capital
city of Urumqi, on 2 September 2005.
Edward Strachan, the Director for ITE Group in the
Central Asian region, said after the ceremony that "ITE
is delighted to launch its partnership with the Xinjiang
International Exhibition Centre. The Centre is well
known in the region as the most modern and spacious
venue, with excellent facilities. We are looking forward
to working with the Centre, to providing for our exhibitors
the best international business forum in this vast
geographical region."
Although China’s economic miracle has affected
mainly the Eastern region of China, the West has
recently begun to catch up, as both domestic and
international capital seeks new opportunities in
this rapidly-growing economy.
Western China boasts a population of over 50 million,
embracing a vibrant mix of nationalities. At its
heart and situated on the ancient Silk Road linking
China to the West, the booming city of Urumqi is
inhabited by more than 2 million people.
Representing a door to the neighbouring oil-rich
states of Central Asia, Xinjiang has become the focus
of China’s oil and gas interests. China has
been actively strengthening its hand in the industry,
having purchased PetroKazakhstan to add to its interest
in Mangistau in the Caspian Sea, while also developing
its own fields in the Junghar Basin. A major oil
and gas pipeline running through Xinjiang province
from Atyrau on the Caspian Sea has ensured future
supplies from Central Asia and delivery to the East.
The capital Urumqi is beginning to reap the benefits
of these developments as well as profiting from the
racing Chinese economy. The signs of a forthcoming
boom are everywhere, with new building projects dominating
the skyline, fully booked hotels and 50 weekly flights,
as businessmen flock to see what the region has to
offer.
ITE Group Plc has vast experience in organising
exhibitions in emerging markets, especially in this
region. Some of its exhibitions are the largest in
their industries. Many exhibitors have requested
that ITE expand their exhibition brands into West
China, which has so far lacked any major specialised
events.
Chen Yidong, Director of Xinjiang International
Exhibition Centre, declared, “It is a great
privilege for Xinjiang International Exhibition Centre
to sign a long-term contract with such a prestigious
exhibition organiser as the ITE Group; it is a sign
of the international business community’s increasing
interest in our region and we are certain that the
experience of ITE will bring many new companies and
investors to Xinjiang.”
ITE is excited to open China’s Western door
and looks forward to welcoming its many interested
clients to Urumqi in 2006, to participate in the
Xinjiang International Exhibitions
