World Food 2001 will be co-located with Russia's leading sweets exhibition 'Sweetsexpo Moscow'. Sweetsexpo is a well established exhibition and its presence will enable sweets and confectionery companies to exhibit together in their own show under the umbrella of World Food. Sweetsexpo will enjoy a separate visitor promotion campaign to World Food and of course will benefit from the massive World Food marketing campaign.

The confectionery industry in Russia

It is estimated that the total amount of confectionery consumed in Russia is more than 1.1 million tonnes, which is valued at $3.2 billion per year. From nothing in 1991 foreign manufacturers have built up market share of between 30 - 40% of the total confectionery business as a whole and up to half of the chocolate bar business. Foreign companies are continuing to build factories and produce their goods domestically (Nestle, Mars, Dadone, Ludwig Schokolade, Chup-Chups, Dan Cake, Kraft Jacobs Suchard etc). Most of the big internationals have announced plans to expand within the market.
