ITE, organisers of Interfood Ukraine and St. Petersburg which took place last April, are optimistic about the future of the Russian and Ukrainian food industry. Their annual international food and drink trade events held in Kiev and St. Petersburg were the largest of their kind for the two regions. Each event consisted of four exhibitions; InterFood, InterDrink, FoodPack and Ingredients, covering the entire spectrum of the food and drinks industry from ingredients processing machinery to the finished product.

Reviewing the April events, ITE say the exhibitions were more successful than expected. Exhibitors were surprised by both the amount of business generated and the quality of the visitors at the shows, considering the recent economic and political upheavals. Mr Kahandawa, Tea Commissioner for the Ceylon Tea Bureau in Moscow commented, "Despite the tough economic conditions, the organisers have made a considerable effort to make these shows a success".

The popularity of the events is illustrated by how far companies travelled to exhibit. Participants at Interfood Kiev came from as far as Brazil, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. A total of 23 different countries were present in Kiev and 17 in St. Petersburg.

The organisers were pleased with the results of the events, Dan Coberman, Project Manager commented "This year has been difficult for anyone connected with business in the emerging markets. It was quite difficult for us to attract international companies mainly due to negative press. I was glad to see how much good business was carried out at the Spring events and the positive atmosphere that prevailed in both Kiev and St. Petersburg".

ITE are now proceeding with confidence with their autumn events; Drinks Russia, Equiphotel and Ingredients Russia which take place in Moscow, Interfood Azerbaijan and Interfood Kazakhstan.
