Visitor Profile: More than 28,545 combined visitors from both exhibitions were welcomed through the doors last year boosting the total number of trade visitors for Russia Building Week 2000 to 55,000. Visitor backgrounds included interior designers, specifiers, architects, distributors, decorators, wholesalers, retailers, developers, refurbishers, importers, e.t.c. all will crucial purchasing authority. National Groups: As well as key industry players, national groups are attending the exhibitions from over 10 countries including Finland, France, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Austria, Bavaria, Czech Republic, Spain, and Italy. This confirms how important overseas industry relations are important to government bodies. Why Russia Now? The construction, building and interiors industry has shown steady improvement since the devaluation of the Russian rouble. The presence of visitors at Russia Building Week 2000 from all over Russia and the large increase in exhibitors this year, has to be seen as an indication of stabilisation of the economy and continuing buying power of the Russian consumers. A recovery in consumption was already noticeable in the second half of 1999 in the regions around the major cities of St. Petersburg and in the entire Moscow zone. The most prudent short-term projections are of a return to 80% of the pre-crisis level by 2001. Consumption should continue to rise together with an improvement in the level of real incomes.
