ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL EVENT SERVING NORTH WEST RUSSIA

Batimat St. Petersburg 99, the city's third international building and construction exhibition serving the north west Russia and the Baltic States, took place between the 27-30 October 1999 at the Lenexpo International Exhibition Centre, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Batimat St. Petersburg 99 again had the full support of the St. Petersburg Mayor's Office and Gosstroi Rossii, the State Committee for Construction, Architecture and Housing in the Russian Federation.

Batimat St. Petersburg has established itself as the most effective meeting place for companies wishing to expand their interests in north west Russia and despite the economic difficulties experienced there, 30,000 visitors saw 250 companies from 15 countries including government supported national groups from Finland and the United Kingdom.
Visitors came from many different parts of the country including Great Novgorod, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Ekaterinburg, Ivanovo, Kaliningrad, Nijny Novgorod, Kazan, Tcheliabinsk, Togliatti, Smolensk and Tcherepovets.

The exhibition was opened by the Vice-Governor Mr. V.L. Loktionov and Sir Jeremy Hanley, director of organisers' ITE Group Plc., who took time to visit all parts of the exhibition.

As in previous years, Batimat St. Petersburg 99 featured, Heat*Vent St. Petersburg 99 - 3rd International Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration exhibition and Interiors St. Petersburg 99- 3rd International Furnishings, Flooring, Finishes and Interior Design exhibition.

Heat*Vent St. Petersburg 99, which also included Sanitaryware companies has continued to develop over the past three years and now has become an established event in its own right, with market leaders including Oras, Ido, Viessmann, Grundfos, Electrolux, Artema, Areoprof, Osko and many more.

90% of exhibitors believe that St. Petersburg is important for their company's sales and marketing objectives and over 60% said that the exhibition has been successful for establishing new business contacts.

To underline the success of the show further, 67% of the exhibitors definitely intend to come back to Batimat St. Petersburg 2000, including the Finnish and UK Pavilions and with a further 30% considering a return.
A German national group stand will also be participating for the first time next year with a wide variety of building materials.

Companies reporting immediate success are:
"We have been visited by business people from all over the north west region. There is certainly a lot of interest."
Burley Appliances, United Kingdom

"We met a lot of professional visitors and made new business contacts"
Hueck, Germany

"Very good organisation and excellent standard of service"
Tryba, France

"We have been pleased with the contacts we made - the interest has been excellent"
Contractstroy, Russia

A new and very popular feature at this year's exhibition was a demonstration area where companies were able to present their products "alive in action" by participating in different technical seminars and workshops. Various companies contributed their products in order to build a very well presented demonstration stage, that featured tiles, flooring materials, different types of wall and roofing products as well as windows and doors.

New too this year was the competition "Building Innovations for the 21st Century" that allowed more than 40 companies in various categories to submit their products and services to be judged by a panel of experts. Amongst the judges were representatives from the Building Committee of the St. Petersburg Administration, the St. Petersburg Science Research Institute and the North West Building Chamber. They evaluated and compared products comprising building materials, windows, doors and profiles, the HVAC sector and Interior products and winners like Ceramics Alba were chosen for their natural bio ecological material and Technopark for their luxury Russian wood windows which incorporates German technology.

A seminar was also organised in which the construction market in St. Petersburg and the Leningradskaya region was discussed with high profile guest speakers including Mr. Milyavsky from the Building Committee of the St. Petersburg Government and Mr. Khazova of the Housing Committee of the Leningradskaya area.

Preparations are already underway for Batimat St. Petersburg 2000, taking place 25-28 October 2000 at the Lenexpo Exhibition Centre.
